THE 11TH NEW WORKS & YOUNG ARTISTS SERIES
At Riverbank State Park Skating Complex (145 St)
This year's Rockefeller and Riverbank concerts profiled many of the larger ensemble pieces of the company ranging from the colorful and mysterious "Draughtsman's Contract" by Elisa Monte to the tantalizing classic "Tango Images" by Peter DiFalco.
Our final concert featured the subtle skating of long time Ice Theatre skater/dancer, David Liu. This program included a piece choreographed for David and the Ice theatre by the late, Carlos Orta.
Founder/Director Moira North says that "David Liu skates with his entire body and personifies eloquence in motion. He emphasizes artistry over athleticism, all the while performing brilliant skating technique with seemingly effortless perfection." Reviewing an Ice theatre performance for WQRX Radio, Francis Mason called David, "Nijinsky on ice".
At the Riverbank State Park performance David (along with other company members and apprentices) assisted young children (from local public schools) to lace their skates after the performance for a FREE skating clinic.
