Ice Theatre Apprentice from Italy Shares her Experience

The first time I saw the Ice Theatre of New York I immediately fell in love. The lines and the beauty of those amazing skaters! Such an original and fascinating way to move. I was so impressed by the harmony and the research of body expression; the use of body as a real way to communicate. Every performance seemed without ending: a continuous virtuosity of bodies with such a brilliant dynamic. I felt immediately the fire of the passion for this terrific kind of art.

I am very thankful to Elisa Angeli for introducing me to Moira North during the ITNY French tour at the end of January, 2009. I found the company to be a great group. It was so exciting to try to skate with them. I met fast and very good skaters. Moira let me join rehearsal during the warm up and I felt myself joyful in the group. After my experience in Grenoble, Moira gave me the opportunity to come to New York to study as an apprentice. I arrived in New York in the second part of March and was very happy to be there. Moira and Elisa taught me basic and advanced classes and I found new feelings on ice and new sensastions in my body. It has been so interesting to see how a technical motion translates into an artistic one. I am artistically growing up step by step. I was asked to skate in an ITNY piece, "La Revolte des Enfants", with Elisa and Eve Chalom. It was such a pleasure to skate with them. I love to cooperate with other skaters to find the right way to perform a piece. This, in particular, is a very funny piece. We were attached by a 4-meter long piece of fabric. We skated together and could not make mistakes because if one person fell, we all did.

The construction of a piece is not so easy. Following the music all together, finding the right movements, discovering a personal sense in the piece are not such easy things. It is very rewarding to realize these things.

I love skating with the Ice Theatre of New York and I am very, very thanksful to Moira North and to all of Ice Theatre, espcially Elisa Angeli. I also thank so much Eve, Ty, Jirina, Aretha and everyone else in the Company.
