The Rink at Rockefeller Center Plaza

Ice Theatre of New York presented the second performance of its 2003 Concert Series at The Rink at Rockefeller Plaza on Wednesday, February 26 at 1 PM. Featured in this concert was a collaboration between JoAnna Mendl Shaw and David Liu entitled THIN ICE/ COMMON GROUND, commissioned by New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Based on Laban Movement Scales, this choreography explored the delicate balance between stability and mobility and the common ground between dance and ice dance. Ice Theatre also presented The Dreame, a duet created by dance choreographer Jacqulyn Buglisi. The Dreame was Ms. Buglisi's first work on ice and was also commissioned by NYSCA. Through a series of movements incorporating the Graham technique and Buglisi's own inventive style, this romantic piece used the energetic, rhythmic and momentous qualities of the music to create continuous lines of dramatic tension and suspended breaths. In celebration of Black History Month, Ice Theatre's own African American skater Alyssa Stith presented a special performance. The concert featured a solo by principal skater Katherine Healy, who performed a balletic piece entitled AVE MARIA.
