Ice Theatre of New York, New York's most prominent artistic skating company, is presenting the second performance of its 2003 New Works and Young Artists Series. This performance is free to the public and features the Company's Ensemble, young performers and special guest artists who together perform a diverse and exciting repertory, followed by a skating clinic for the audience.
Ice Theatre will present THE DREAME, a duet commissioned by NYSCA and created by dance choreographer Jacqulyn Buglisi. Through a series of movements incorporating the Graham technique and Buglisi's own inventive style, this romantic piece uses the energetic, rhythmic and momentous qualities of the music to create continuous lines of dramatic tension and suspended breaths.
The performance will feature solos by principal skater Katherine Healy and guest artist Roman Serov. A protege of Olympic Skating Champion John Curry, Healy became a principal ballerina with the Vienna State Opera Ballet Company, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo and the London Festival Ballet. She is currently choreographing, coaching and performing figure skating. Serov placed 4th at a recent Russian Nationals and won several international championships; he is now training in Hackensack, NJ.
Also featured in the concert are Kimberly Navarro and Rob Shmalo, who recently returned from US Figure Skating Championships, and are currently in the top 10 of the nation for Ice Dancing. Navarro and Shmalo were alternates for the 2002 Oympic Games in Salt Lake City.
Program subject to change.
