2009 Fall Benefit Gala
The Ice Theatre of New York will be hosting a performance and benefit gala in honor of Paul Wylie at 7 PM on Monday, October 26, 2009. The festivities include a performance by the Ice Theatre ensemble and guest stars at Sky Rink, which will be followed by cocktails and dinner at The Lighthouse (both on Pier 61 at Chelsea Piers).
Recent inductee to the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame, Paul Wylie has had many successes as a skating artist and in the world outside of the rink. Paul is a five-time U.S. National Medalist and winner of the 1992 Olympic Silver Medal. He continued with a long professional career winning, among others, the 1993 World Professional Figure Skating Championship, as well as spending over six years touring with Stars on Ice. Following his skating career Paul obtained an MBA from Harvard. He has worked as a sports commentator and analyst, most recently for ESPN.
In addition to honoring Paul Wylie, Ice Theatre will present a Choreography Award to Lar Lubovitch in recognition of his many works for skaters, from pieces for Paul Wylie, John Curry and Peggy Fleming, to the televised ice ballet "The Planets."
Ice Theatre of New York will present the Ice Angel Award to Sky Rink for its recognition of ice skating as performing art and its long-time support.
The evening will support Ice Theatre’s New Works and Young Artists, an
outreach program for public school children in Brooklyn, Manhattan and
Queens, as well as all of our artistic programming.
